About the School
St. John's International School is wonderfully situated on a hill overlooking Lyme Bay in the beautiful and safe seaside town of Sidmouth in Devon. The school is a part of the wider organisation of International Education Systems (IES) and combines traditional values with a contemporary, international approach to learning. St. John's benefits from excellent facilities, including beautiful historic buildings, extensive grounds and playing fields, a heated large swimming pool, indoor sports hall, adventure playground and tennis courts. In order to provide children with "Education for Life" St. John’s have aligned its teaching practices and methodologies to the International Baccalaureate system; encouraging academic excellence alongside a strong emphasis on the development of confident, reflective and caring young people and communities. In 2009 St. John’s successfully started Year 9 of International GCSE and Years 10-13 are due to be introduced each year up to and including 2012. Students in the Senior School will be prepared for International GCSE Examinations in Year 11 and then International School Leaving Certificates (Years 12 and 13). St. John’s School specially designed Short Courses programme which enables overseas children to sample the very best of British education with a strong international perspective at a traditional school in a fully English speaking environment where the students have the opportunity to start, or improve, or refine their English skills.
